As a child I had numerous conversations with adults who would be quite happy to explain what had
happened, how things worked and even such abstract concepts as Politics.I read every past Readers
Digest, Time Magazine and Life Magazine by age 8 for many and a few years later I, we, got them all.
Next door to my Aunt Priscilla's country vacation cottage at Lac Belleview, near to Saint Calix
de Killkenny, was the relatively manorlike Marlowe Vacation Home. Up on the top floor under the eaves
the entire oak floored open space was finished like a ballroom. It was not used and it was full of
magazines, including every Time Magazine, Readers Digest and Life Magazine, which is how
I pattern some blog articles. The pictures in Life Magazine were very good.
When non-asshole Mr. Marlowe, whose son was half Lithuanian like me, Gerald Marlowe,
when Mr Marlowe discovered us the children, lots of us reading the Magazines he Bequested
us the space, saying we the children could use it anytime.Nice warm and dry on rainy Laurentian
Mountains days.
The point of the piece is that I knew about the Gestapo and the Stazi and Stalin and what went on
in those Iron Curtain Countries. Hungarian and Ukranian fathers and mothers and German and
Russian Emigres had first hand information and opinions. There was bizzar political punishment
and informing authorities about such crimes as having a non-sanctioned Radio Station broadcast.
The Soviet Bloc was in a death battle cold war with the US it seemed and Canada too and
someone advanced the opinion and prediction that countries in conflict would end up becoming
like their adversary counties. There was the conflict with Nazism and the Nazi Commie Combos
such as East Germany to end up becoming like as well. We in the West got Informing and the
Police State and the petty Demagogery of State Officials no matter how small fry.
